Our Services
The Green Goddess team of plant healthcare specialists can diagnose and administer a wide variety of services. Biotic (living) factors such as insect or fungal pests are often blamed for plant health problems; usually these ailments are symptoms of urban/suburban abiotic (non-living) stress factors such as soil compaction, water requirement issues, etc. We not only want to treat the symptom of the plant health problem; we ultimately help you fix the root of the issue. Consequently, insecticides and fungicides are only some of the tools we use to improve your trees, shrubs, and lawn. Growth regulators, fertilizers, soil decompaction help your greenscape fight off most diseases on their own in the long term.
A sequence of treatments performed at the proper time of year takes years of experience. Plans for treatment are often multi-year; changes in treatment plans are often complex based on changing weather patterns, suppression of certain pests and/or environmental stressors, etc. Our experienced specialists not only use their expertise to properly apply applications, they also keep a growing log of notes about changing conditions and what treatments are necessary moving forward.
We don't perform tree removal, pruning, surgery, hedging, stump grinding etc. Call our skilled partner Budget Tree Inc. for any cutting services: (651) 426-8660
Emerald Ash
Borer
Trunk insecticide injections kill larvae and adults feeding on live tree tissue. Treatments provide full protection for 2 years with 60% protection in year 3. We recommend treating every 2 years. Even healthy Ash trees will never have strong resistance against this invasive insect; this is why commitment to continuing treatments is necessary.
JAPANESE BEETLE
Japanese Beetle treatments must be administered at specific times of the year. These windows of treatment time are weather dependent varying from year to year. Treatment programs will often consist of soil injections and/or sprays as well as lawn applications to kill grubs. Usually multiple treatments each year are necessary.
OAK WILT
The mighty oak is under attack from the virulent fungus known as oak wilt. Oak wilt is often mistaken for other oak ailments and treatment prognosis is different for Red Oak and White Oak species. If wilt is found; fungicide trunk injections can prevent spread of wilt through roots or even stop disease progression in infected White Oak species. Treatments last at least 2 years and sometimes up to 3 years.
Root graft wilt spread occurs between Oaks of the same species that are in close proximity...generally 30 feet or less. Trenching or vibratory plow services may be recommended to sever root connections. Spread of wilt can occur over longer distances between all species from beetles visiting fungal mats and wounds. This is why pruning oaks from April-June is not advised; spread from beetles is rare from July-October. Ideally, Oaks should be pruned from November-March.

PLANT GROWTH REGULATOR (PGR)
WARNING: Improperly applied growth regulators will kill your plants! Have a professional apply these treatments!
Plant Growth Regulators alter plant growth hormones. Plant energy is focused into fine root growth rather than crown growth; this increases the plant's drought and pest resistance. Plant morphology changes include slow growing hard woody tissue, small deep green leaves with thicker cuticles, and dramatic increase in fine root growth. A fascinating overview regarding the benefits of growth regulators is linked here:

Plant growth regulators often saves money with fewer pruning and lawn mowing services needed. Plants also become much more efficient with water uptake which potentially reduces irrigation requirements.

NON-SELECTIVE HERBICIDE FOR BUCKTHORN AND MORE

Non-selective herbicides are generally a more heavy-handed approach for weed control. These herbicides in particular must be applied with great care to avoid costly damage to nearby plants. One example situation where these herbicides are used is to control weeds in rock or mulch beds near lawn.
Non-selective herbicide treatments are also available to control extremely hardy wooded area weeds such as the invasive buckthorn pictured in the background. Selective herbicides are often more gentle and target specific; these will generally not be effective for control of the toughest weeds.
